The uploading rules are pretty bad as well. No map protection, horrid hosting, horrible UI, I don't think they ever enabled scripting (use external programs to script, other whys you're stuck with the GUI). Felt like a huge downgrade, and what I've heard is it's still unfinished. Kept telling myself "it's complex because it's good!" for the first few weeks, gave up on it shortly afterwords. Beta comes out, and load up the editor the instant it comes out. I modded wc3 for years, and sc2 was going to be a holy grail for modding. This is wrecking havoc on SC2's custom map lineup. You can try delving deeper into the popularity list, but anything outside of the top 20 just doesn't get played. The result is that there are perhaps only 4 or 5 distinct varients of custom maps available right now. Pretty much the only maps played are those on the top 20 popularity, of which most are unfortunatley quite similar to each other. It gets even worse from a variety standpoint. I'm not even going to get into mapping until they completely rework the current system it's a waste of my time because I can't even play my own creations. In SC2's system, it is practically impossible for us to host our maps, since we're not on the popularity list. A lot of mappers work sporadically in their spare time and don't maintain followings at all (followings generally require you to be active every day), yet we probably constitute over 90% of all creations. For small-scale solo mappers like me, SC2 is a complete disaster. Unfortunately, if they don't do something about the popularity system, this could very well fail. I have SC2 but i am pretty much waiting till more good custom maps come out. There's still plenty of time for Blizzard to patch, refine, and expand on the game, but currently I'd say Warcraft III is the better title. Starcraft II is a great game, but it doesn't break new ground. Personally I'd rank it at #4 overall, after "All In", "In Utter Darkness", and "Supernova". Overall, I'd say this mission easily makes it into the top 5 for difficulty. This is a really fast-paced mission, so you cannot afford significant casualties. The terrazine can wait if you're losing too many units trying to nab it, the Protoss will just steamroll you once their attacking waves show up. Secondly, try to take that second resource site early. Save often and reload if a group of Protoss appears out of the blue. This means you can't use your own sense of timing to gauge when the next Protoss attack will come it's completely arbitrary, and this makes it really easy to get caught offguard. The hardest thing about this mission is that most of the attacking Protoss waves aren't built, and instead spawn in spontaneously. I think it's worth it, since you want to have those first few Protoss tech bonuses unlocked for the other missions, but definitely you're going to have a fight on your hand for that on the highest difficulties. It's doable, but you're asking for trouble if you don't have siege tanks and vikings unlocked. This is definitely one of the game's most challenging missions, particularly if you attempt it too early. Communityĭamn terrazine level is impossible on brutal.
